Two Prague Metro Stations Set to Reopen Soon After Year-Long Closures

Prague’s Českomoravská and Pankrác metro stations are nearing completion after extensive renovation work, with reopening dates expected before Christmas and ahead of a major 2026 global event.

Two Prague metro stations that have remained closed for almost a year—Českomoravská on Line B and Pankrác on Line C—are now approaching their reopening, according to the Prague Public Transit Company (DPP). Českomoravská, located near the O2 Arena in Prague 9, was initially scheduled to reopen by the end of 2025, but unexpected structural issues forced additional repairs and delays. DPP now expects the station to reopen before March 25, 2026, just in time for the World Figure Skating Championships returning to Prague for the first time since 1993. The updated station will feature newly designed artistic walls and bubble-glass elements.

Pankrác station on Line C, which has also been closed since January, is progressing more favorably. The reconstruction is closely tied to the development of the future Line D transfer point, requiring major upgrades including new escalators, a new elevator, and the construction of a connecting passage for the upcoming line. Despite being the more technically demanding project, city officials say they are cautiously optimistic, with the possibility of reopening before Christmas if no unexpected issues occur. According to the Prague 4 council, the station’s lobby has already undergone significant transformation and will offer a more open, airy layout with improved access to the escalators.
