Prague is preparing to replace its current public transport system, PID Lítačka, with a new mobile application in 2027. From that year, commuters and visitors will need to use the new digital platform to plan journeys and pay for travel across Prague and the wider Central Bohemian Region.

The new transport app is being developed by Prague’s city-owned technology company, Operátor ICT (OICT). According to city officials, the application is expected to launch on January 1, 2027, with pilot testing planned for late 2026. The goal is to introduce a more user-friendly and efficient travel system that meets the needs of a modern, connected city.

One of the key features of the upcoming app will be support for “demand transport.” This means certain services, such as buses, will operate only when requested by passengers. City leaders believe this will help reduce empty routes, improve efficiency, and lower environmental impact.

The app will also simplify fare management. Instead of buying tickets in advance, users will be able to travel freely while the system tracks their journeys and automatically calculates the most cost-effective fare at the end of the day. This feature is expected to make public transport more convenient, especially for tourists and occasional users.

Prague authorities also aim to move toward a fully digital transport system by eliminating paper tickets and physical travel cards. The new app will offer real-time route updates, digital journey history, and seamless mobile payments.

In addition, the project is being coordinated with the Central Bohemian Region to ensure smooth travel for commuters coming from surrounding areas. With development set to finish by the end of 2026, city officials promise public information campaigns to help residents and visitors adapt to the new system ahead of its official launch in 2027.
