Prague’s Flora Metro Station Set for Major Modernization

Prague’s Flora metro station on the A (green) line is set to undergo a major transformation, bringing modern design, better accessibility, and improved energy efficiency to one of the city’s busiest transport hubs.
The Prague Transport Company (DPP) has confirmed that the 45-year-old station will close on February 2, 2026, for a ten-month renovation project. The CZK 1.29 billion reconstruction aims to fully upgrade the station’s infrastructure, making it safer, brighter, and more comfortable for passengers.
Modern and accessible design
The renovated Flora station will feature LED lighting, modern cladding, air-conditioning, new ventilation systems, and updated security features. DPP will also install energy-efficient escalators and a new elevator system, making the station fully barrier-free by early 2028.
A second exit and elevator access will be introduced on Vinohradská Street near Olšanské cemeteries, easing movement and improving connections for residents and commuters.
Why the upgrade matters
Opened in 1980, Flora’s facilities have long required modernization. The renovation will replace outdated escalators and electrical systems, fix leaks, and improve energy performance—ensuring smoother and safer travel for years to come.
“The new elevators and the second exit will significantly increase passenger comfort and make public transport more accessible in this part of the city,” said Zdeněk Hřib, Prague’s Deputy Mayor for Transport and chairman of DPP’s supervisory board.
Short-term closure, long-term gain
While Flora station will be closed for about ten months, alternative metro access will remain available via Jiřího z Poděbrad and Želivského stations, both easily reachable by tram or bus. The upgraded station is expected to reopen to passengers by late November or early December 2026, with final elevator work continuing into 2028.
Part of a citywide modernization plan
Flora’s reconstruction is part of DPP’s broader effort to modernize Prague’s metro network. The nearby Jiřího z Poděbrad station reopened last year after a similar renovation, and projects for Hradčanská, Strašnická, and Želivského stations are already in preparation.
Once completed, Flora will not only regain its central role in Prague’s transport system but also stand as a modern, accessible, and energy-efficient station designed for the future.
