Prague music fans will have a rare opportunity to see 1980s pop icons Duran Duran live when the band performs at Prague’s O2 Arena on June 24. This will mark their first concert in the Czech Republic in 14 years. Tickets, starting at CZK 1,500, will go on sale on February 23 through Ticketmaster and Ticketportal, organizers Live Nation announced.
The British band, famous for hits such as Hungry Like the Wolf and Rio, helped define the MTV era with cinematic music videos and synth-driven pop songs. Duran Duran has sold more than 100 million records worldwide, won two Grammy Awards, and was inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame. Core members Simon Le Bon and Nick Rhodes have remained with the group since its formation, later rejoined by founding members Roger Taylor and John Taylor.
The band has a long history with Prague. They first performed in the city in December 1988 at Sportovní hala during the communist era, receiving praise from Czechoslovak Television for their melodic music and impressive stage production. They later returned for concerts in 2005 and 2012 at the O2 Arena, performing many of their 1980s hits for enthusiastic audiences.
During their 2012 Prague show, Duran Duran opened with Before the Rain, which featured documentary footage of Russia’s Bolshevik revolution. Lead singer Simon Le Bon was joined by backing vocalist Anna Ross on several songs, and the band closed the concert with a mash-up of Wild Boys and Relax, followed by encores of Girls on Film and Rio.
Named after a character from the film Barbarella, Duran Duran released their debut album in 1981, the same year MTV launched. The channel played a major role in boosting their international fame, as their visually striking music videos became staples of early music television.
Throughout the 1980s, the band consistently topped British and U.S. charts with tracks such as Is There Something I Should Know?, Union of the Snake, and the James Bond theme A View to a Kill. They continue to tour extensively worldwide, inspiring artists across generations and maintaining their global legacy as one of the most influential pop bands of their era.
