The Czech University of Life Sciences Prague (CZU) has earned a place among the top 100 universities in the world in three academic fields — Agricultural and Forestry Sciences, Ecology, and Water Resources — according to the 2025 Shanghai Academic Ranking of World Universities (ARWU).

In its main field, Agricultural and Forestry Sciences, CZU achieved an impressive 24th place globally and 5th in Europe. In Ecology, the university rose from the 101–150 bracket last year to 51–75, placing it around 25th in Europe. Meanwhile, Water Resources entered the global ranking for the first time, positioned between 76th and 100th.

Overall, CZU is ranked 801–900 worldwide, sharing fourth place among Czech universities with the Czech Technical University in Prague (ČVUT). Despite a slight drop in the overall ranking, CZU’s Rector Petr Sklenička emphasized the university’s significant progress in its core disciplines.

Rector Sklenička highlighted the importance of strengthening collaboration within the Euroleague for Life Sciences (ELLS) alliance, which recently received the European Commission’s Seal of Excellence for its Sustainable Life project. He noted the growing global competition: “Among the top 25 universities in Agricultural and Forestry Sciences, only five are from Europe, while eight are from China.”

CZU is currently coordinating a joint European research project under the European Commission’s call to promote excellence and enhance the research competitiveness of European universities.
