From October 1, tram services have resumed at one of Prague 7’s busiest junctions near the Exhibition Center (Výstaviště) following months of reconstruction. Six tram lines, including routes 1 and 6, are now back on their regular schedules, reopening earlier than expected.

The redesigned area represents a significant shift in city planning. Cars will no longer be permitted on this section of U Výstaviště Street, with priority now given to pedestrians, cyclists, and public transport. This change enhances safety and convenience for those traveling to Stromovka Park, the Exhibition Center, and nearby railway links.

Key improvements include:

• Restoration of tram lines 1, 6, 14, 17, 25, and 93.

• A straightened tram track for smoother and faster service.

• Upgraded sidewalks, lighting, drainage, and greenery.

• Development of a new pedestrian-friendly zone under the railway viaduct and near Stromovka.

Private cars are permanently restricted in this area, aligning with broader European urban trends that limit vehicle access in favor of public transit and pedestrian spaces. Only trams, rescue services, planetarium deliveries, and cyclists will be permitted.

For international students and residents, the project means more reliable tram connections, safer walking routes, and improved cycling links, including integration with the A6 cycling path. Although final paving and landscaping work will continue into the autumn, the resumption of tram service already marks a major improvement in connectivity.

This development highlights Prague’s commitment to building a safer, greener, and more accessible city for both residents and the international community.
