Beaver supermoon: When and where to see the biggest full moon of 2025 in Czechia

Czechia recently experienced the largest and brightest supermoon of the year, known as the Beaver Moon. This event gave sky watchers a rare chance to see the Moon at its closest point to Earth, appearing noticeably bigger and brighter.
Why It Was Special
The Moon was at perigee, its closest point to Earth in its elliptical orbit.
It appeared up to 15% larger than the smallest full moon of the year.
Visibility improved as the Moon rose into the constellation Taurus.
Viewing Conditions in Czechia
Most of the country had clear and favorable weather.
Fog or low clouds were possible in western Bohemia and the Vysočina region.
Temperatures were near freezing, so warm clothing was recommended.
Tips for Skywatchers
Look toward the eastern horizon from open, dark areas away from artificial light.
Binoculars or a small telescope help reveal more detail.
Štefánik Observatory on Petřín Hill was open for guided viewing.
Background: What Is a Supermoon?
A supermoon occurs when a full moon aligns with its closest point to Earth. The term is not officially astronomical and was coined by astrologer Richard Nolle. Because the Moon’s orbit is elliptical, its distance ranges from about 356,500 km to 406,700 km.
