The Prague 8 Building Office has granted a new permit to the Prague Center Association, which runs Kasárna Karlín. This means the center can soon reopen its smaller courtyard buildings, including the cozy café, lively bar, and concert hall that have been closed for more than a year.

A Big Step Forward

Since June 2024, Kasárna Karlín has been limited to outdoor events because some of its renovated spaces didn’t have the right permits. With the new approval, the team can now continue their mission to bring people together through art, music, and creativity.

The permit isn’t fully final yet — it can still be appealed to Prague City Hall — but it’s a very positive move toward bringing back the full energy of the place.

Community Support and Improvements

Kasárna Karlín first opened in 2017 inside the former military barracks, turning the area into a vibrant cultural spot for locals and expats. Over the years, it has hosted concerts, movie nights, exhibitions, and outdoor events that attracted thousands of visitors.

Authorities reviewed concerns from some nearby residents about noise but found no evidence of serious issues. The request to shorten opening hours was also declined, allowing the center to continue its usual friendly atmosphere in the evenings.

The City of Prague, which now owns the barracks complex, is planning to renovate the main building and use it for new purposes — possibly as apartments, a cultural center, a tech park, or even a school.
