The Záchranka emergency app has introduced a new universal SOS button along with an SMS chat feature, significantly improving how users can reach emergency services in the Czech Republic. The update is designed to make emergency communication faster, clearer, and more accessible for everyone, including people who are unable to speak or face language barriers.

The newly added SOS button replaces the earlier version that only connected users to the medical emergency line 155. With the new update, users can choose the type of assistance they need. Selecting medical help connects directly to line 155, while other emergencies are automatically routed to the universal emergency number 112.

One of the most important features of the update is the SMS chat option. This allows users who cannot speak—due to injury, disability, or unsafe situations—to communicate with emergency operators through text messages. This ensures that essential information, including the user’s location and the nature of the emergency, can still be shared quickly.

Officials highlighted that the improved routing system and faster location sharing help emergency services respond more efficiently, especially in critical situations. Vladimír Vlček, General Director of the Fire Rescue Service of the Czech Republic, stated that the ability to call directly through the Záchranka app is a major step toward faster and more effective emergency assistance.

The updated version of the app is being rolled out gradually for both Android and iOS users. Those with automatic updates enabled will receive the new features without needing to take any additional action.

The Záchranka app is part of Czechia’s broader efforts to modernize public safety systems. By offering multiple ways to communicate and ensuring quick access to emergency numbers, the app aims to reduce uncertainty during emergencies and make emergency services more inclusive and accessible for all residents and visitors.
